“In my head” is a tribute to the iconic Great Wave off Kanagawa and my enduring love for Japanese culture. This collage was born from my journey to Japan last year, a trip that left me deeply moved by the country’s harmonious balance between tradition and modernity, nature and humanity.
Constructed from carefully cut and layered paper, the work transforms Hokusai’s legendary wave into a figure, a silent muse crowned with blossoms, her form shaped by the waves of the sea. The golden halo behind her is both a nod to sacred iconography and a symbol of reverence for cultural heritage.
The piece speaks of movement and stillness, of strength carried within fragility. Just as a wave holds both power and grace, the figure embodies resilience and serenity, standing as a bridge between my own Western perspective and the beauty of Japanese artistry.
